Methods to manage anger
One of the most common methods you hear about to deal with anger is counting to ten. Some research has found that the neurological response to anger lasts less than two seconds. This is why a lot of people tell you to count to ten.
Another method to help manage anger is to walk away from what is angering you and sit down and breathe. Try to think about positive thoughts, and try to go to a "happy place." Think about something that makes you smile and try and laugh. Laughing actually helps to strengthen the immune system and it is very hard to be angry when you are laughing or smiling. Did you know that the body can't tell the difference between a fake smile and a real smile? So when you are angry smile, because it doesn't matter if it is real or pretend, your body will release the feel good chemicals anyway and you will start to feel better.
Another way to manage anger is to think about whether the thing you are angry about will be important tomorrow, or in a week or even in a month. Chances are it won't be that important. If you feel it is, assess the situation. For example if you have an argument with someone and you walk away feeling frustrated and angry that "they just don't get it," think whether it is really important to be angry. It will most likely be a simple thing that won't matter the next day.
If you are feeling really angry and frustrated running, jogging or some other form of exercise can help. Exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins are the body's feel good chemical that gets released when exercising. Then your mood is boosted and you feel happier.
